Dr. Derek Tournear

Dr. Tournear joined DARPA in May of 2007 as a program manager for the Strategic Technology Office. Dr. Tournear's program thrusts are in the areas of space control, specializing in radiation detection and measurement.

Dr. Tournear came to DARPA from the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) where he worked on radiation detectors and space systems, included work leading to a patent for gamma-ray channeling optics. Dr. Tournear was the LANL Principle Investigator for the DARPA XNAV program. Prior to LANL he performed research at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center focusing on gamma-ray detection and X-ray astrophysics.

Dr. Tournear received a BS in physics with highest honors from Purdue University and a physics PhD in 2003 from Stanford University.
