Mr. Jeffrey Paul

Program Manager

Bio:

Mr. Paul develops new initiatives in advanced sensors and image processing/display technologies for information exploitation applications for the individual soldier/Dismount Warfighters. He is currently managing two major programs: Multispectral Adaptive Networked Tactical Imaging System (MANTIS) - helmet mounted system for the Individual Warfighter, and Networked Embedded Systems Technology (NEST) - advanced software/middleware for exploitation of wireless, microsensor networks. In addition he pursuing new concepts and advanced technologies for application to urban warfare.

Mr. Paul joined DARPA as a program manager in 2002 having worked previously in the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Science and Technology, where he was OSD Chairman for the Combating Terrorism Chapter of the Joint Warfighting Science and Technology Plan (JWSTP); OSD Chairman (Acting) for the Technology Area Review and Assessment (TARA) on Sensors, Electronics, and Electronic Warfare; OSD Chairman (Acting) for the TARA on Space Platforms; and OSD Manager for the ATR Technology Assessment Program. Mr. Paul also worked for Hughes Aircraft Company as program manager for the Multisensor Acquisition & Fire Control System for Advanced Combat Vehicles and the Advanced Robotic Ground Vehicle Technology programs. As a physicist at the Army Night Vision Laboratory Mr. Paul conducted pioneering work in Image Intensification and Laser technology and developed and fielded a number of night vision systems, including: the AN/PVS-5, Night Vision Goggles, the AN/PAQ-4, Infrared Aiming Light, and the AN/PVS-6, Eyesafe Miniature Laser Rangefinder. He also conducted extensive research in Laser Countermeasures, nonlinear optics, and tunable/frequency-agile, solid-state lasers.

Mr. Paul received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics in 1968 at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois. He has published numerous papers in the field of Electro-Optics.
