Dr. Mari Maeda
Program Manager
Bio:
Dr. Maeda is currently focusing on tactical two-way speech translation systems and tactical information management systems. In speech processing she has led the development of two-way speech translation systems. In tactical information management she conceptualized, orchestrated, and drove the creation of the Tactical Ground Reporting (TIGR) system, recently deployed to operational use. She is also responsible for the management of the ASE and SAPIENT programs.
Dr. Maeda has over 20 years of experience in research and development of advanced information and networking systems. She was at DARPA for a previous tour from 1998-2002 when she managed the Next Generation Internet Program for the Information Technology Office, and was also responsible for the creation of the NETEX program. Prior to her DARPA tours, Dr. Maeda was with BellCore/Telcordia Technologies Incorporated where she managed efforts in optical networking and network management systems.
Dr. Maeda holds a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and A.B. from Bryn Mawr College, both in physics. Her graduate thesis was in the area of quantum optics and "squeezed light" generation.
