Dr. Charles Holland
Deputy Director
Bio:
Dr. Holland is a Deputy Director of the Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO), one of five Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) technical offices. IPTO is currently supporting thrusts in high productivity computing, command and control, sensors and processing, automated language translation, and cognitive systems. In addition to his role as Deputy Director, Dr. Holland is the Program Manager of the High Productivity Computing Systems Program.
Prior to joining DARPA in 2005, Dr. Holland was the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Science and Technology). In this capacity he provided leadership to the entire spectrum of the $10B+ annual Defense science and technology portfolio executed through the three Services and Defense Agencies.
Dr. Holland holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University, received the Public Service Award from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and is a Fellow of the IEEE. In addition Dr. Holland has received the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive and Meritorious Civilian Service Awards from the Secretary of Defense, the Air Force, and the Navy. He served on active duty as a 1st Lt. in the US Army.
