Channelized SIGINT/ELINT Receiver for UAV Apps (CHASER)

The Channelized SIGINT and ELINT Receiver for UAV Applications (ChaSER) program leverages breakthroughs in microwave photonics to develop a novel photonic radio frequency (RF) receiver, designed to dramatically reduce the size, weight and power (SWAP) of electronic countermeasures/electronics support measures systems while maintaining or improving performance levels of state-of-art conventional RF receiver systems. New electronic warfare (EW) system architectures based on the ChaSER receiver enables small platforms such as UAVs and unattended ground sensors to offer sophisticated wideband signal collection and processing capabilities that until now have been only supported by much larger and specialized platforms.

ChaSER develops and demonstrates a highly sensitive, ultra-light, ultra-wideband, radar intercept and location system based on a system of single-channel microwave photonic receivers. Each receiver channel possesses a SWAP product that is 10,000 times less than existing state-of-art modules, without a sacrifice in RF performance.
